Love Rangoli! So easy to eat vegetarian with Indian food and Gobi appetizer and Navaratan Korma is my favorite combo! Biryani and Veggie Samosa are excellent too! You will not be disappointed stopping here to eat!

I'm so glad I found this little place! It's in a rather large strip mall off of mound and hall, and I never would have seen it if not for yelp. :) It's a restaurant, but also does a lot of take out food. The worker was very friendly and helped my mom navigate the menu a bit based on heat and what flavors she liked. She got the Chicken Tikki Masala(chicken white meat grilled in a Tandoor and cooked in a creamy tomato sauce) and I ordered the Paneer Makhani (Cheese cubes cooked with herbs and spices in a creamy tomato sauce). We split a side of Cheese Kulcha(Naan like bread stuffed with herbed cheese) as well. It all came out relatively quickly and I was so happy with the taste of everything when it did. The medium spice was enough to make your lips tingle a little by the end of the meal, the bread had a cheese reminiscent of brie in it and had a delightful creamy texture. The chicken practically fell apart it was so tender, and the sauces were bursting with flavor. I can't wait to go back again and again and again!!

First time I have ever tried this place. It's about ten min from me and well worth the very short drive. I had the garlic naan based on what everyone suggested and it was no slouch. It was fantastic indeed. The bread is peppered liberally with garlic, a touch of parsley and little brushed with ghee to my delight! The butter chicken was fantastic as well. I ordered it medium heat and it was warm and wonderful. Nothing out of balance and the price was great for the serving sizes! It was very well appointed with chicken and so smooth and creamy with the sauce. Really a great eat! I also tried the meat samosas and they were very big! At least three huge bites if not give normal bites:) The place had lots of seating and was not busy on a Sunday evening to my delight. I ordered to go and it was ready before I was there to my happiness. Defiantly worth a try!

It's hard to believe that I've never reviewed this smaller version of Rangoli of Auburn Hills geared to take out. I've ordered food from here several times over the years. It is excellent. Tonight, for example, I got what may have been the perfect Navrattan Korma (vegetables in a light brown creamy sauce). The Palak Paneer (spinach with little cubes of cheese) was also very strong. My onion kulcha (bread stuffed with onions and cilantro) renewed my faith in a dish that hasn't been so good at other restaurants lately; it had lots of savory chopped onions. The people who work here are very nice. The food is consistent (mild is just what it should be - a touch of spice without overwhelming). Rangoli Express is a real winner.

I love the main Rangoli in Auburn Hills so I decided to give this location a try since it's literally 2 miles away from my apartment. The items here are different than the other Rangoli, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I noticed their U-Pick lunch special was for dine-in only; $8.99 a plate for a meat, rice, naan, two sides, and a drink. Not a bad deal. However, I couldn't find their lunch specials to go until I came back home and searched up their website. Today I ordered the Lamb Koorma, medium spice and rice included, with a garlic naan to go. The total was a little over $15; kind of steep for lunch, but I was a hungry gal. It took about 10 minutes for my food to be prepared and the server personally walked my food over to me on the couch even though I could have easily walked up to him at the pick-up counter. I was very impressed. I left a dollar tip and returned home to check out my food. Right away I could smell the garlic wafting from the foil that contained my garlic naan. I opened up the foil and immediately started salivating. The bread was fluffly, smothered in butter, generously topped with fresh garlic and chopped cilantro. The taste was indescribable. I was in serious nirvana. I then took a bite of the Lamb Koorma and again, my taste buds were singing with joy. The spice level, although I ordered medium, was not hot at all. In fact I think I may order it hot next time. Some of the lamb pieces were a little tough and chewy, but fortunately I like to eat meat with texture and some gristle to it. I can't wait to come back and try their lunch specials and maybe dinner some time.

Stopped in with a coworker for lunch. It was both of our first times having Indian food. We both enjoyed a lunch special which included a meat, rice, and two appetizers. We found the food to be quite good and the staff was very helpful. The man at the register gave us a very detailed explanation of all of the different food choices. I had a curry chicken. My coworker had butter chicken. The place was not very crowded and the worker told us that lots of people seem to be intimidated by Indian food until they try it. We will definitely be back!

This place has one of the best mango smoothies I have ever tried. The food is very fresh and the chicken tikka is excellent. If you like Indian food it's a must!

Food was great! Lamb was tender and a perfect spice. Rice was so fluffy. The young man who took care of us was very helpful and kind. On the downside the manager was talking to the employee out in the open about the things he was doing wrong, embarrassing to him and us. Should have taken the conversation in back. Even so I would go back.

I just wanted to tell about my dinner I had from Rangoli last night (that I am now eating for breakfast this morning!) Butter Chicken - Was everything I had hoped it would be...creamy deliciousness! SO GOOD! Yum! Garlic Naan - Everything I had hoped it would be and MORE!!!!! Devoured that (none left for breakfast...boo) Masala Dosa - I was so hungry when I picked this carryout order up, that I had a few bites in the car...YIKES!!! I raced home so I could get me some more, along with the sambar & chutneys they provided! Loved this! It's huge too....it's for lunch today! I have to say, the Basmati I've had has been the best at Moti Mahal...It had a really nice, very light floral flavor. The rices that I've experienced at Rangoli, and New Delhi, seemed like regular white rice, but maybe it's supoosed to....haha..

I've had some amazing Indian... admittedly not in India, but in California (next best thing). The best Indian is always so addicting I crave it weekly... the problem being that Detroit area Indian just isn't quite as good. I was relieved and happy to find Rangoli Indian Grill Express in Sterling Heights. I passed by it several times without going in- it's in a strip mall by the AMC Forum 30 movie theatre and looks less than appetizing from the outside. But one day I had a craving and entered, and now "Indian and a movie" is a coined phrase in my lexicon. My first order became my "every time" order. My movie buddy and I order the lamb wrap (with both spicy sauce and mint sauce, wrapped in a freshly baked naan-like bread!) and the chicken kadai, my usual Indian standby. My favorite part of their chicken kadai is the fact that they don't give me the "American version" of spicy. There's a real kick to both of these dishes, which have so many more flavors than just "hot" going on. It's my new favorite since Ashoka changed owners a while back. Don't let the looks fool you. It looks like fast food and claims to be 'express,' but in reality it's slow the way a sit down restaurant is. Don't go for atmosphere, go because once you taste it you'll have it on your list of places to return.

Food came out in good time. The butter chicken was good, but the chicken tikka was way better. Naan bread was really good too. May try some biryiani next time. Wish there was more Indian food around my area.

I love the main Rangoli and this location is 4-4.5 stars for me. They have some of the same items as the other location but I love that the menu is different too. Here they have kaathi rolls here which was delicious "wraps" (I like the paneer wrap) with a nice mint chuntey. I think those are a good snack or lunch option. This location is more of a diner style environment too. It's been empty at lunch often but busier at dinner. Service is kind of casual as well. It's very different from the other location. For dinner, I liked the veggie pakoras (very oily but spicy with some of the sweet and sour chutneys being a perfect compliment) and they have affordable main vegetarian entrees at $8-$9 at the time. They have delicious crisp naan (bread) and cool raita (yogurt) at about $2 each. It's very filling with a nice balance of flavors and plenty of leftovers. Ok I changed my mind and I'll give it a 5 but I do need to revisit to make sure it has maintained its standards.

Stopped in here to get dinner with a friend, and it was really good. The service was very friendly, and the servings were a good size. Needless to say I cleaned my plate--and the homemade naan was the best. I'm looking forward to coming back.

I came here today and ordered the Butter Chicken entree, an order of Naan, and a Mango Lassi. I ordered the Butter Chicken with a mild spice, which was perfect - it wasn't too spicy at all! I love the creamy sauce, which served as a perfect dipping sauce for the crispy Naan bread that I ordered separately. They give you two large pieces of Naan that are freshly baked. As for the Mango Lassi, I expected it to be sweeter, but it had a little tart taste to it. It tasted like they used greek yogurt in the Mango Lassi, but I can't complain- it was still good, nonetheless! Other than that, I was very satified with my meal. The portions looked small, but it was very filling and I couldn't finish all of it on my own! I had to take it home for leftovers later :) Will definitely return and am looking forward to try other dishes on the menu!

Had the family over, and decided to order carry out. Searched for Indian restaurants, this place looked good so we tried it. There were 6 adults and 1 teenager including 3 vegetarians. The bill was just over $80, and we had lots of leftovers. The Veggie Samosa and Mixed Vegetable Pakora were okay. Baigan Bharta, Aloo Gobi Masala, Palak Paneer, Butter Chicken, Lamb Seekh Kabab and Chicken Tandoori were all delicious, and the last two dinners came with cups of red curry to flavor the rice - yum! We also had two orders of naan and two of roti, also very tasty. When we checked out the person working made sure we helped ourselves to the chutneys - they were terrific too. The place is very hard to find. It is in a small strip mall hidden in the western shadow of Walmart. Now that I know where it is I will definitely go back.

The food is bursting with flavor! There are so many amazing vegetarian options! For those of you that don't tolerate spicy food well like me, the mild preparations of all their dishes are the perfect blend of salty, sweet, and gently spicy. The "express" environment is convenient for carry out or dining in. It's all the delicious cuisine you'd expect from Rangoli, prepared in a reasonable amount of time, and absolutely delicious!

Being an Indian and seeing restaurant style food to be made into fast food is kind of sad. I mean - there's an Indian fast food out there - it's called street food. It's almost like taking Italian food and making it into fast food - kind of doesn't sound right. Indian, much like Italian takes time, effort and traditional methods of cooking. But this place tries to slap together pre-packaged meats and pre-made curry gravies together for the American on-the-go with a curry craving. The end product feels kind of like a high quality microwaved frozen dinner version of an Indian entree. The breads all are pretty satisfactory, but the entrees have these perfectly-cut boneless pieces of meat that just have a taste and texture as if they were bought in frozen pre-packaged quantities from Costco or something. I admit, for a quick Indian food pit-stop - that won't dent the wallet - this place is a good option. And I have seen coupons floating around for this place, too. My only warning is that just like there's a difference between a Red Robin's and a McDonald's - there is a difference here between authentic slow-cooked Indian food from scratch and this place. I hear Rangoli Express serves "Kaathi Rolls," which I've been waiting to try. I've had some really delicious Kaathi rolls in NYC before. I guess being Indian and knowing that the diversity and tradition behing is hard to be captured into an "express" form of dining. We have a whole category of street food dedicated to express dining. Well, maybe being Indian had me biased and harsh towards this place. Definitely give this place a shot, just be warned that it's nowhere near as good as Indian food gets. If you want a more sit-down, authentic Indian dining experience - perhaps try Ashoka in Troy, or the Rangoli original full-service restaurant in Auburn Hills. If you want something made a little faster, in a simpler setting for cheaper - then come here.

This is an authentic Indian restaurant. Not a fancy place but the food is excellent (very flavourful) and inexpensive, nice size portions as well (you won't end up going home hugry!). Their combo is a great deal. There is something for everyone. They have a various dishes for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Not everything is spicy but I recommend to ask if it is and their "not very spicy" is most likely going to pretty darn spicy and if it says "spicy", believe it, it is going to extremely hot, so keep this in mind. It's one of those places where you want to come back again and again. With that I love Rangoli and highly recommend it.

I've only ever had the lunch and dinner platter here. The food is very very mild for an Indian place, but I don't really mind. The chicken tikka masala is delicious! The chicken is cooked just right and the masala is creamy perfection. The dal makhani is the perfect combination of lentils and cream. I have to say, their tandoori chicken is spiced well but it tends to come out a touch dry (but still pretty good). Their veggie somosas are pretty good too- I like to dip mine in a mixture of the sweet sauce and the chili sauce. Because of the express element, I can't really say much about the service. They're not bad, I suppose. Overall, I loved having a weekly meal at this place!

Over the years this place has gone downhill. Food taste old and stale and the staff have become increasingly rude. I once had a coupon from this place and they wouldn't even accept it. and it was from them. I don't think Id go back unless someone wanted to take me. lol. Sadly because years ago it was actually good.

I came here after the suggestion of several of my Indian friends. This place did not disappoint me. Since going the first time, my wife and I have continued to go back, and at times, go out of our way to get food here. First and foremost, notice the word "express." This is a slightly less expensive place than its counterpart in Rochester. Its has more of a fast food feel to it, and the service level matches. There is a large selection of dishes from the various regions of India (like most Indian restaurants), but they always manage to provide adequate spice levels; and the food is always flavorful. The chilli paneer is a solid performer. I have ordered this dish in low levels of spice up through high levels of spice, and the Indo-Chinese flavor is always there, with the appropriate level of heat. The chicken tikka masala (which I never order, but my wife loves), is tasty. Not my favorite dish, but they do better than most places providing the rich creamy tomato flavor. Dal makhani, my favorite. This says something since I prefer main dishes that contain meat! The lentils are ever-so-slightly al dente and the kidney beans cooked perfectly. Nice to order this spicy, but would taste good regardless. Lamb Vindaloo - good, but not the best I've ever had. In summary, good selection, cheaper prices than other places in the area, and a staple take-out for my wife and I.

The time i went there ,,, there was nobody ! Which is kinda weird ... Biryani chicken is not the very best u can imagine but it's really good ,,, the staff is 6/10 ... Environment is gloomy inside ( to go is a good idea btw ) :p... Garlic naan is 5/10 ... Prices is ok ... It's really 3/5 rest "for me"

This place is very casual, as you order at the counter and they bring your order to you. I lived down the street from here a while back, I the man who worked the front desk knew me by voice alone when I would call for carry out. The service can be a little slow at times, but the food is terrific. I love the Special Spicy Dosa and the Chana Masala! Now that I live in Washington, I dream about my dosas back home! Their Kati Rolls are fantastic as well!

Very good place love the chicken tikka and the baighan Bartha if that's even how it's spelled. Never get mild though it has no flavor if u do. Pretty authentic other then the Mexican cooks.

The food here is ok as long as you eat at the sit down place. I wouldn't recommend catering from here anymore. There was a time when their prices were reasonable but like most indian restaurants they are getting greedy. Also, they will quote a price and later on tag on an additional cost to some dishes. A much better option is the previous indo pak Restuarant which now has a new name even I can't remember and I am.a hardcore indian! The South Indian dishes are not tasty and the sambar was atrocious. I think they have Bangladeshi cooks. But the place is clean and people are not sitting on top of each other as in Ashoka restaurant. Their samosas are pretty good, will give them that! I used to cater from here often but now have moved to Indopak. Food is much more tasty there and much more reasonably priced.

The Express isn't always Express (although you don't have to deal with servers or anything) but the food more than makes up for it. Especially with their platter specials for lunch or dinner where you pick an entree, 2 sides, naan, and (for dinner) the vegetable of the day! Everything that I've had was wonderful, and the low cost is just the icing on the delicious cake.

All I have to say is Chx Tikka Masala. I have been to a few Indian restaurants in the area looking for my favorite dish (something which compares to the restaurants on Devon Ave. in Chicago) and I finally found it.

The food is not bad, but the hosts don't offer any guidance of what food to eat, the serving concept is westernized eg: you order then they serve it to your table; they expect you to take your used tray and utensils to the designated place; please don't forget doing so otherwise they will call you back to your table to clean up your mess. Oh its express, however , they expect you to leave them a tip. Before going in, please know what you order because you are expected to know what you are ordering as if you are the visitor to their land.. Needless to say, I am not going back to this place.

Me and my best friend come here about twice a week on the way home from class. We almost always order the baigan bartha and the chicken tikka masala w/ naan and garlic naan. Always amazing. I have tried most of their menu and some other recommendations are : aloo gobi and aloo masala. The mango lassi is obviously tasty as well.

Indian food isn't supposed to be expensive. I always told Janelle that I'd never eat Indian food. I assumed it was all monkey brains cooked in lard and deer eyeball curries. I was an RA in an international dorm in college, and the fact that you could smell the kitchen from any room in the building turned me off to the idea of Indian food. Then, one day, Janelle talked me into eating at an Indian buffet. In a strip mall. In Monroeville, PA. But oddly enough, I loved it. Too new to Indian food to know that the ghee-soaked North Indian crap was like K-Mart to a Hyderabadi Prada, I enjoyed every bite of it. And since that day, EVERY time I've had Indian food, even the worst of the worst, I've enjoyed it. Until today. At Rangoli, while the food may not be good, at least it's not cheap either. Sadly, when you leave Rangoli, not only will your craving for edible Indian food not be satisfied, but you're going to have to get on the line with Uncle Barry to ask for a bailout. A small, soggy dosa, a tiny portion of chilli chicken and about a cup and a half of chicken biryani is going to run you $30. I've had shady medical checkups in alleys behind bars that left me feeling less violated than I felt leaving Rangoli. Hey Rangoli, I realize that I'm the chilli chicken expert, and you're just a "fast casual" Indian place, but stir-frying some chicken, onions and green peppers in hoisin sauce isn't chilli chicken. First of all, the dish was half green peppers (which isn't an ingredient in chilli chicken)...if you're going to be cheap with your ingredients, don't charge me $7 for the damned thing. Second, there is no hoisin sauce in Indian cooking. Third, look at the name of the dish - chilli chicken. What two ingredients would you automatically assume would be in there? You got the chicken down. Where were the chilies? I once walked in on my grandfather drying off after a shower, and that experience was hotter than your chilli chicken. I've had MUSTARD that was spicier than the "extra spicy" chilli chicken I ordered at Rangoli. The biryani was disgusting. Instead of describing it, I'll just teach you how to replicate it. Go to an Indian grocer and buy two biryani masala mixes and some chicken. Put a few handfuls of rice in a pot, toss in the chicken and both masala packages, add a cup of water and let it cook. Don't bother measuring ingredients or stirring or anything. After about half an hour, take it out and put it in the fridge. A week later, take it out and pop it into the microwave. Voila! Rangoli's Special Hyderbadi Chicken Biryani. It's about as enjoyable as giving your mother a brumsky. The dosa was basically an IHOP pancake, minus the sugar, with some mashed potatoes smeared on it. I've seriously gotten better dosas from the frozen food aisle at Super Target. The only reason to ever go to Rangoli is if you've got to go out to dinner with someone you hate, and you've already eaten. Even then, there are cheaper ways to get revenge on someone. Rangoli was the first and only time I've ever eaten Indian food and didn't enjoy it. That should tell you something.

Decent. Definitely not cheap compared to other great Indian restaurants. Not impressed with the butter chicken (flavor or price)! Garlic naan was good though. I asked for the butter chicken to be spicy. It was barely mild! Probably won't be returning. Definitely not worth the drive for me!

I'm not a big fan or their sandwiches, samosas or soups, but for everything else, Rangoli Express is pretty good. Their veggies are a bit mushier than what I am used to, but the wonderful flavors make up for that. Go at lunch for their lunch boxes- you get a main dish, 2 sides, naan, rice and the curry of the day. I also love that you can help yourself to as much tamarind and mint chutney as you'd like.

Ive been to 20 or so Indian Restaurants and I first judge them all by how good their Chicken Tikka Masala is, well Rangoli's CTM is the best Ive ever had and what I compare everyone else's to. A close second fave dish from Rangoli is their Butter Chicken. YUM!

Lamb vindaloo is the standard to judge by and theirs is bar none some of the best. It's a great extension of their restaurant in Auburn Hills (go for the buffet if you get the chance) the turnaround time's pretty good. Get garlic naan with whatever you order and you won't regret it.

Delicious and affordable food. No delivery, which seems typical for anything other than pizza around these parts. Other than that (and a slightly bland dosa) it was awesome. I want to go get some more!

Hands down, by far, the best Indian cuisine i have ever eaten. This review applies to both of their locations. The lamb korma is the best I have ever had, same with the chicken tikka masala (which is actually an Indian inspired British dish). The naan is soft and warm and is perfect for soaking up that delicious curry. This review will be left short and sweet. If you want the best Indian food (in the opinion of quite the connoisseur), visit one of the Rangoli's locations to be absolutely blown away.

India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Be assured that the melody of spices will surely bring delight to you.

It's really 3/5 rest "for me"
(3)Angela G.
(5)Devourfoodman M.

Chicken Tikka Masala is absolutely delicious. Order it medium hot. You will order it again and again.
(5)Alanna S.
(4)Mike R.
All I have to say is Chx Tikka Masala. I have been to a few Indian restaurants in the area looking for my favorite dish (something which compares to the restaurants on Devon Ave. in Chicago) and I finally found it.
(5)Ed R.
(2)Andrew S.

(1)Sara C.
Decent. Definitely not cheap compared to other great Indian restaurants. Not impressed with the butter chicken (flavor or price)! Garlic naan was good though. I asked for the butter chicken to be spicy. It was barely mild! Probably won't be returning. Definitely not worth the drive for me!
(3)Amya S.
(3)Brian W.
Ive been to 20 or so Indian Restaurants and I first judge them all by how good their Chicken Tikka Masala is, well Rangoli's CTM is the best Ive ever had and what I compare everyone else's to. A close second fave dish from Rangoli is their Butter Chicken. YUM!
(5)Henry L.
Lamb vindaloo is the standard to judge by and theirs is bar none some of the best. It's a great extension of their restaurant in Auburn Hills (go for the buffet if you get the chance) the turnaround time's pretty good. Get garlic naan with whatever you order and you won't regret it.
(4)Gabe M.
Delicious and affordable food. No delivery, which seems typical for anything other than pizza around these parts. Other than that (and a slightly bland dosa) it was awesome. I want to go get some more!
(4)ryan k.
